Around 90-120 graduates, who can match the achievements of Maidonion Karen Walker, are being sought by German supermarket chain ALDI.

Ms Walker, 25, is a regional manager supervising four stores. She has a business studies and French degree from Birmingham University and was selected for the firm's recruitment scheme in 2006.

She had read about the scheme on the company's website and decided it was the job for her.

"The high levels of responsibility from very early in your career was a major influence - no other jobs could compare. What's more, ALDI offers unprecedented variety in the work you do, providing experience in all areas, from finance to store operations and HR," she said.

The interview process was simple and swift, she revealed. Graduates also get comprehensive retail management training. Other incentives were a ??40,000 starting salary and an Audi car.

Ms Walker admitted that the hours were not fixed but said she took control and enjoyed the responsibility she was given.

"From day one I was thrown in at the deep end and handed the keys for a store. It's tough, but I thrive on a challenge," she added.
