Graduates looking for a career in construction would do well to get in touch with builders' merchant Travis Perkins.
The owner of the Wickes home improvements chain has reported a better-than-expected performance for the first half of 2010.
The firm, based in Northampton, said it is now in a position to restart payments to its shareholders after a two-year freeze. It said its like-for-like sales increased by 3.4% in the six months to June, spelling good news for those looking for graduate construction jobs.
Its merchant division has experienced a 10.3% rise in sales over the last two months.
Performance is not as good at the Wickes DIY division but "same-store sales" are getting better, up 1.6% in the past two months. Wickes's half-year performance declined by 0.4% overall.
Travis added that it will soon provide an update about its proposed ??553-million takeover of BSS, a specialist plumbing company.
