Aspiring chefs are being urged to enter a graduate awards competition and get the chance to learn skills abroad and get to grips with some great British produce.
The 2009 Craft Guild of Chefs' Graduate Awards is open to trainee chefs aged 23 or under. Winners will be sent on study tours to Luxembourg and a Scottish fish farm, while the highest achiever will embark on an undisclosed educational journey.
Up to 30 candidates will be selected to go through to the first round heats at the London Thames Valley University and Birmingham College of Food Technology on July 9.
To pick who goes through, judges look at the strength of an entry as well as their mentor's reference. The final test at Westminster Kingsway College on September 4, will require finalists to score over 85% to pass.
Craft Guild chairman, Nick Vadis, said: "To be judged by your peers can be quite daunting and we are on the edge of our seats to find out exactly what untapped talent lies out there."
