Former presenter to become teacher

Ex-Blue Peter presenter Romana D'Annunzio is embarking on a teaching career.

Ex-Blue Peter presenter Romana D'Annunzio is embarking on a teaching career.

The former presenter from Edinburgh decided to pursue a career as a secondary school teacher after graduating from Glasgow University.

Miss D'Annunzio, a presenter for the children's television show in the late 90s, said she was "delighted" to have completed her degree.

The 37-year old lived in Rome for a year and taught English to teenagers, and it was during this time that she decided to change her profession after completing an arts degree.

She said: "It's a great feeling to have completed my studies at Glasgow.

"Some of my friends recommended I study here and I've not been disappointed. It's been a terrific experience.

Miss D'Annunzio was self-funded while living in Italy and as a result got a job teaching English in a school which she said encouraged her love of teaching.

She added: "There were a number of times, when I was in the front of a class, that I thought 'This isn't so unlike presenting Blue Peter'."

The former presenter was only the second Scottish person to present the show and joined Blue Peter in 1996. She left the show to pursue a career in acting in 1998.
