There`s something about a soldier, says the old song, and more graduates seem to be getting the message.
According to the Ministry of Defence, a guaranteed salary, period of employment, pension and skills that can be transferred to the private sector are an attractive credit-crunch package.
It points to its Fast Stream Development Programme, which accelerates training for graduates seeking administrative, engineering and science careers.
And it reports a one-sixth increase of traffic through the Army website, a 5% rise in recruitment across the three services, and that the numbers leaving are at their lowest since 2005.
Says a spokesman: "There is great job security, top-level training and opportunities to develop skills which can be transferable to the civilian world."
He also cited bespoke graduate schemes, language tuition, financial assistance and industry secondments as a means of gaining high levels of qualification very quickly.
