The latest poll conducted by GRB shows that many graduates are determined to hold on to their career ambitions for as long as it takes to land a graduate job.
An impressive 35% stated that they would take as long as it takes and would never give up on their ambitions. At the other extreme, 23% said they would give it between one and four months before considering other options.
One in five would give it 8 months, one in ten up to 12 months and a similar proportion up to a year and a half.
Longitudinal research into the destinations of graduates shows that the vast majority of graduates do gravitate towards a graduate level job eventually. This is good news for today's graduates who, despite being caught up in a tight and highly competitive jobs market, intend holding out for their dream job.
Commenting on the results, Dan Hawes, GRB Co-Founder said, "It is heartening to find that graduates are demonstrating resilience when it comes to their careers. It is a vital requirement in today's tight job market. They do need, however, to consider what they do in the meantime and they should give careful thought to choosing options that will route them towards the career of their choice."
Dan went on to say, "The Association of Graduate Recruiters conducted some research into the hidden graduate talent pool which suggested that many graduates were under the misapprehension that if they failed to win a place on a graduate training programme the year they graduated then they had missed the boat. Nothing could be further from the truth and many employers actually find that graduates with a year or two's life experience under their belts make excellent recruits."
