An unusual act paid off for an unemployed graduate, who landed a job after displaying a giant copy of his CV on the Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth.
Alex Kearns, 23, who graduated with a degree in French and Italian from Swansea University, had been searching for a job for several months.
Waving a placard with "Give Me a Job" written on it, Kearns listed his abilities and interests, including "plinth dwelling", on the 10ft-high piece of wallpaper which also had his contact details.
His unorthodox approach piqued the interest of a London business consultancy. He was offered an interview shortly after his hour-long stint on the plinth and later heard he had got the job.
Mr Kearns, from Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey, told the Evening Standard: "In the current climate you have to work hard to stand out from the crowd. I saw this as a golden opportunity to sell myself.
"It certainly paid off because my new boss was impressed that I had some get-up-and-go"
The Fourth Plinth was built in 1841 to house an equestrian statue but was empty for many years. It is now used for specially commissioned artworks.
The current installation is the brainchild of Angel of the North sculptor Antony Gormley who has taken thousands of applications from the public for the chance to occupy the plinth for an hour each for 24 hours a day over 100 days. The project runs until October 14.
