This annual research report is an essential benchmarking resource for any organisation which employs graduates.

It provides an accessible guide to the state of the market, with details of planned starting salaries for this year's recruits. But it also looks at how successful employers have been in holding on to their graduate recruits from past years and the salary progression they have awarded.

Pay and Progression for Graduates 2003 is the latest in a series published annually as part of the IDS Management Pay Review service. The graduate recruitment market is notoriously one of boom and bust, so it's essential for those taking on graduates to keep their finger on the pulse from year to year. Based on responses from over 100 named employers who together took on thousands of graduate recruits last year

The survey includes:

  • starting salaries for recruits in 2002 including extra payments for higher qualifications, relevant experience, regional allowances and the use of 'golden hellos'
  • forecasts for starting salaries for recruits in 2003
    numbers of recruits, methods of attracting applicants, other aspects of recruitment policies, problems encountered, recruitment costs, and the use of the internet including on-line application forms
  • sponsorship and work placements, with details of bursaries, sandwich year and vacation pay
  • salary progression and retention of graduates recruited three and five years ago.
