Travel Firm Announces Graduate Plan

A new two-year graduate scheme is set to be introduced by the TUI Travel group, bucking recession trends.

Launching a graduate programme for the first time in its history, TUI's HR director Jacky Simmonds said the holiday firm was about to start recruiting for 10 graduates to join the programme next year. The scheme will cover all areas of business operations.

Mr Simmonds explained: "We are continuing to invest in training and development. The scheme is a two-year programme with our first intake in September 2011."

The scheme has been launched at a time when several graduate employers - including steel firm Corus and smoothie maker Innocent Drinks - have had to cut back on graduate schemes.

The TUI Travel group was formed in 2007 by a merger of TUI Tourism and First Choice Holidays.

This week, TUI also revealed the results of its first staff survey since the merger, which showed that almost three-quarters - 73% - of the 14,000 UK staff employed responded to the poll.

The firm ranked highly on its engagement score - 83% , while 68% of staff thought the group had managed change well.
