Universities To Raise Tuition Fees Again in 2013

University

Government has released new figures for fees that UK universities are planning to charge in 2013. Over 50% are planning to increase tuition fees for the coming autumn.

Out of 122 university institutions, a staggering 64 (52% overall) are planning to increase tuition fees for undergraduate courses this autumn. Only 15 universities (12% overall) are planning to cut their prices.

According to data published by the Government's Office for Fair Access, the increase could be as much as £900 per student. It was only a year ago when universities were allowed to triple the tuition fees to current level of £9,000. The timing of this announcement is significant, as UCAS application deadlines for these institutions is 15th of January.

The proposed further increase in tuition fees has a clear correlation with the fall in university applications from the previous year (-6.3%).

Do you agree with the further increase in tuition fees, or what would be a fair fee for your tuition?
