A growing number of candidates searching for a graduate job are being interviewed over video-chat software such as Skype as companies take advantage of this easy and inexpensive way to speak to potential employees. Of course this type of communication can be open to problems with faulty technology, disruptions and network troubles but the advantages often outweigh these downfalls especially if the candidate would have to travel a long distance or even overseas to an interview. A video link is a good way of replacing an in-person interview when there are difficult circumstances or if arrangements become complicated. It is a better way to interview than a phone call as facial expressions, appearance and body language are all conveyed over the link giving a more rounded sense of what a person is saying. If you are asked to attend an interview over Skype, remember that is should still be conducted in a formal fashion and you will need to dress to impress and research the company beforehand just like a face to face interview.
