In June a firm in Crawley, West Sussex were seeking a potential recruit with the right mix of educational attainment, skills and personality. "Our client made it clear it was crucial the person fit the company culture and had a high level of intelligence." Enter Paul a Sports Science graduate from the University of Brighton. Having left his job search until after he graduated Paul was naturally nervous about entering the job market. "I was worried I'd left it too late. I definitely knew what I wanted to do but realised the jobs market is exceptionally tough right now. There were 60 graduates on my course alone looking for work so I had to act." Paul didn't hesitate to make a start. He finished University on the Friday and started googling for graduate opportunities the following Tuesday. Discovering GRB he applied for a Researcher role with a fast growing recruitment consultancy. "I read the job ad and applied for the role at 3pm on the Tuesday. It sounded perfect.

I just hoped GRB thought I was a good match too!" Paul needn't have worried. At 5pm Matt at GRB called Paul to go through his application and the role. "From the very start of the conversation I realised Paul was made of the right stuff but I still wanted to grill him so asked him some tough questions just to be sure. By the end of the interview I was confident my client would want to see him so I sent his CV to the firm immediately. Within an hour they called back to arrange an interview the following day. It took me by surprise that they moved so quickly but the client didn't want to hesitate and risk losing such a perfect candidate." The face to face interview on Wednesday finished at 1pm after an hours interrogation with the Manager. "Normally this client run two interviews but they were so impressed with Paul they knew enough to make a decision. It was a perfect scenario." By 3pm - exactly 24 hours since Paul applied for the role - he was offered the position to start the following week. Dan Hawes met with Paul over lunch in September to personally congratulate him on the role. "It was a pleasure to meet Paul and be able to share his journey with other graduate job seekers in the same predicament. The jobs market is tough but opportunities exist if you know where to look and have focus. He is loving the role and is delighted to be making a start in his career in recruitment."
