We do this nearly entirely on a franchise basis in partnership with independent business owners who operate post offices, known as Postmasters, as well as other retail partners.

We know that the best way to provide a great service for customers is to evolve our business which is why we have a range of over 170 products and services, from personal financial services like banking, insurance, payments, and travel money, to telecoms and, of course, mails. We are currently undergoing Europe’s biggest digital transformation, meaning there is no better time for graduates to join us to help transform the way our retail division operates, making it more accessible than ever.

What Will You Be Doing?

During our 20-month graduate retail scheme, starting Sept 2023, you will get the opportunity to work on industry leading projects and will gain an in-depth understanding of our entire retail function. You will start off with a one-month induction training period with all our graduates, giving you a broad overview of the Post Office structure and functions. You will then undergo three 6-month placements, providing you with practical experience across our 3 main retail functions:

• Retail Operations – Strategy: With over 11,000 branches across the UK, our network strategy & delivery team plays a vital role. Projects you’ll be involved with include engagement with our Postmasters, product transactions and data analytics to build powerful planning & strategy insights.
• Retail Corporate Functions: Gain a commercial understanding of our retail function including product development and implementation and exposure to our finance & technology functions.
• Retail Operations – Network: Work with area managers to build effective commercial relationships, and influence postmasters and commercial partners to deliver an excellent customer experience. Drive customer-focused sales and deliver profit contribution for a geographical patch, within the branch network.

With this structured retail career path, at the end of your scheme you will be able to specialise in an area within the retail function of your choosing, where you will continue to be supported and developed.
