What type of things will I be working on?
On this 1-year Graduate scheme starting September 2025, you will complete two 6-month rotations, engaging in cutting-edge research projects to become a proficient analytical materials scientist. This includes:
- Material identification and characterisation
- Materials preparation skills
- Industrial manufacturing and assembly processes
- Inspection and analysis techniques by hands-on use of analytical equipment such as: Scanning Electron Microscopes, Spectrometers, Atomic Force Microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis
- Non-destructive testing including 2D X-ray and Industrial 3D X-ray computed tomography
- Destructive testing including Tensile testing and Fatigue testing
You will gain knowledge of engineering materials and practices while identifying areas of personal interest for future focus. Some tasks will build your foundational skills, while others will challenge your maximum capabilities. You'll work closely with our operational and product divisions, including Materials Analysis and Research, Encoder Products, Machine Tool Products, and Additive Manufacturing.

Where will I be working?
This role is based out of one of our main sites in New Mills near Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire. Since our Renishaw sites are located in semi-rural areas, applicants should ensure they have reliable means of transport to reach the site, as public transportation options may be limited. Alternatively, applicants should be willing to relocate to the local area.
What do I need?
We're looking for students who are currently undertaking a relevant degree such as Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Materials or Materials Chemistry or Physics.
Training and development is excellent so candidates with no experience but a keen interest in engineering will be strongly considered. If you are excited about the role but feel as though you don’t meet all the requirements, we would encourage you still to apply.
