This 12-month industrial placement, starting September 2024, offers you the opportunity to understand and interact in the design and development of innovative, world-leading products. Our Physics industrial placement involves working on live projects under the mentorship of our senior engineers. These projects could be at any stage of the product development cycle including:
- Initial product and technology research
- Design, implementation and testing of new products
- Providing support for newly released products and investigating/resolving problems that may occur in the field for existing products.
You will be joining a positive growth culture, working alongside like-minded scientists and engineers, where both personal and technical development is encouraged and supported. You will gain awareness of the various technical roles within the Renishaw, building specialist technical knowledge, skills and background theory in areas such as optics, image processing and analysis, experimental evaluation, product development and systems engineering.
What’s on offer?

Where will I be working?
This role is based out of The research park of Heriot-Watt University on the western outskirts of Edinburgh.
What do I need and how do I apply?
This placement scheme is suitable for students who are required to undertake a sandwich placement as part of their degree course. We’re looking for students studying towards and expecting to achieve a 2:1 (or equivalent) degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics or a related discipline.
Training and development is excellent so candidates with no experience but a keen interest in engineering will be strongly considered. If you are excited about the role but feel as though you don’t meet all the requirements, we would encourage you still to apply. You might just be the right person for this role or another placement opportunity at Renishaw.
To apply, simply attach an updated CV and GRB will be in touch shortly after. This is a popular opportunity, with spaces filling up on a rolling basis so don’t hesitate to make an application.
